When holidaying as a large group it can sometimes be difficult finding things to do that will keep everyone happy. Thankfully the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is home to a great range of activities – some man-made, some completely natural but all of them well worth a visit.

With plenty of interests catered for there is something for everyone whilst staying in one of our stunning holiday cottages based near Symonds Yat, Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye and Abergavenny.  Below are some ideas to inspire you to explore the area!

Fun for the family

If you’re looking to keep the young ones occupied you can help them explore their creativityfind adventure, take a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine or explore a slice of history.

Good times with friends

The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley has much to offer when it comes to spending time with your friends. Whether you’re interested in visiting a brewery or vineyard and sampling their wares or exploring the countryside by hiring some bicycles, there’s plenty more opportunities to create those special moments to share with others.

Michelin Star restauraunts in the Wye Valley

If you’re a fan of great food prepared by chefs recognised for their quality with a Michelin Star then you’re in luck.  The Whitebrook is situated in the heart of the Wye Valley just south of Monmouth and has many awards. There’s also The Walnut Tree Inn where legendary chef Shaun Hill continues his tradition of distinctive and delicious dishes.  Also a short journey away in Abergavenny is The Hardwick, recommended by Michel Roux jr as ‘My favourite Welsh restaurant’.

Group Activities

There are many places of interest that cater specifically for large groups. Fancy testing your outdoor survival skills together? Perhaps you want to relax with a round or two of golf or learn a new skill such as archery? Explore the rugged Forest of Dean

As one of the most beautiful and scenic places in the UK there are many trails, MTB and cycle paths to help you explore and find your own corner of this idyllic area. The Forest of Dean is rich with wildlife, read more about where you can find it see these creatures in their natural habitat.

Nature, Heritage and History

There is an abundant local history that is still evidenced with a number of places of to visit. From ancient iron mines that helped birth the industrial revolution, to medieval castles that played pivotal roles in history and living, breathing steam railways. The Wye Valley is also an Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty and has many natural landmarks such as Yat Rock and King Arthur’s Cave in Symonds Yat.

And for when it’s raining…

On those days when the outdoors doesn’t look like such fun there’s still many things to do indoors!  Just remember to pack your wellies!
